chinese christmas cards

Chinese Christmas Cards was born in 2008 as a project without big pretensions and paralleled the projects that its members Mario Gutiérrez and Joan Sala were involved in at that moment. The young band situated in Barcelona began to put together ideas in Joan´s house, and in Joan´s room they recorded songs like ¨Welcome to Life,¨ recently the sound of the Free DAMM 2010 campaign. Mario played the guitar, sang and composed the songs with Joan, who commanded the production and composing of songs on the keyboard and voice synthesizers. These were two halves they joined to create the Chinese Christmas Cards, a mix of song-writing and danceable electronic music with touches of folk and a catchy chorus.

In the summer of 2009 the band decided to formalize the group and entered into the Levi´s Unfamous Music Awards Competition, winning it. The media began paying attention to their work and their future from that moment on. They went on to win the title of Best National Demo Tape in 2009 in Mondosonoro Magazine. During all of 2010 they have played in the best venues of Barcelona (Apolo, Razzmataz and Sant Jordi Club) and in festivals, sharing a poster with Four Tet, Dorian, Infadels and These New Puritans.
